Handicapping:  Exact Science or Name Calling!

Ever take a broad to the races?

Ever give her a couple of pointers and see your tip horses run up the track?

And then she picks names and numbers and your borrowing money off her to buy a can of beer at the end of the night?

Well, we haven’t yet, but this week we will go head-to-head with a broad to see if our handicapping can beat her names and number picking!  We will only can’t the winners, because once again, da’ goat got a little winded!

We head to the Downs for a little 4th of July card to see who will rule, brains or guts!

Da’ goat picks:

1st Race:

1-Brite City Lights: Ran second by a couple of lengths…

2-Notorious George:  A couple of 5 furlong works and top jock in irons for firster.

3-Trip the Wire:  Weak field, and someone has to run third!

2nd Race:

1-Cara Blanco:  No speed in a route race and the beyers are solid.

2-Nevah Nevah:  Has to stay closer to the pace, but should be in contention after one out.

3-Baby Beto:  Another check getter…

4-Lord of Eagles:  One day our site horse will win!

3rd Race:

1-He’sabigtalker:  Drops in class, and has some very good speed!

2-Grey Misty:  Another dropper who has 4 wins at the distance…

3-La Hoagre:  Solid check getter drops in class also…

4th Race:

1-One in Ten:  Big drop and showed some speed vs. stronger…

2-Devilin:  Great works for first time starter, but trainer is O-for-15 with firsters…

3-Niftys Hobby:  Another dropper who will improve in second out…

5th Race:

1-Work Force:  Big shot at a mile since last three has run well and evenly, just needs more ground…

2-Spunky Harry:  The drop and the sire say route race should be no problem…

3-Cahill Blues:  Check getter should pick up the pieces…

6th Race:

1-Carson’s Melody:  Big drop and very good speed should propel this horse to the top…

2-Five de Mayo:  Another dropper who has decent speed…

3-Gentle George:  Ran huge in maiden breaker and shold be winging up front…

7th Race:

1-Shampoo-Has given every indication it will like the stretch out…

2-Beaulena:  If she can get some speed to run at, she should be tough…

3-Firetrail-Ran huge in first route race, needs to step it up against tougher horses…

4-Judicature:  Stalker should be tough on the inside…

8th Race:

1-Dana’s Beau:  She should be stalking a fast pace and fire…

2-Gridiron Gal:  Won by 6 last out and might have figured the game out…

3-Bruschi:  Always been a fast horse, and should show the way…

9th Race:

1-High Frequency:  What is not to like about a horse that is 2-for-2?>!

2-Six Point O:  Won by 6 furlongs after it came from Hastings!

3-Petion Prince:  Dropper should be ready with blinkers off…

4-Devine Style:  Three seconds in last four starts…?  We should move him up!

Good luck!

LEF Picks:

What the heck!  With strict instructions to handicap the races only by name, I read all the entries at Emerald for Friday, and I didn’t see a single Cat or Leo or Wolf or even a Laura in the bunch.  So this is the best I can do.

Race 1:

Notorious George – sounds like Curious George, he’s so cute.

Race 2:

Lord of Eagles – cause Jay’s gotta pick a winner some time.

Race 3:

He’sabigtalker – in reference to the Goat.

Race 4:

One in Ten – those are pretty good odds.

Race 5:

Spunky Harry – sounds heinous, like the name of a CHUD or something.

Race 6:

Erikstratton – wasn’t he the guy from “Chips?”

Race 7:

Mirror Pond – it was my first choice tonight at the market, I got vetoed in favor of Alaskan Summer Ale, I’m not complaining.

Race 8:

Jazzin the Storm – I always have to pick the 8th horse in the 8th race, what with being born on the 8th day of the 8th month of the year, obviously in the year of 1888.

Race 9:

Kaamochion – I have no clue how to pronounce it.
